I help nonprofit and arts leaders make change that actually sticks

Strategic planning. Leadership development. Facilitation. Special Projects.

For organizations ready to move from vision to action.

Who I partner with

I partner with executive directors, senior leaders, and boards in the nonprofit and arts and culture sectors — people doing meaningful work in complex systems, often with more on their plate than any one person should carry.

If you're navigating a strategic inflection point, building toward something new, or trying to get your team and board rowing in the same direction, you're in the right place.

What changes when we work together

This isn't consulting that hands you a report and disappears.

Here's what you can expect:

A clear direction your whole organization can act on. Not just a plan that lives in a binder — a shared framework your team understands, believes in, and knows how to use.

Stronger leadership at every level. Whether you're developing yourself, your senior team, or your board, you'll leave with new language, new tools, and new capacity to lead through what's next.

Facilitation that actually moves things. Meetings that matter. Retreats that generate real momentum. Conversations that surface what's true and help groups make decisions together.

Tools that outlast our engagement. Change management frameworks, facilitation practices, and strategic habits your organization can keep using long after our work is done.

What I do

Every engagement is customized — but most clients come to me for one or more of these:

  • Strategic Planning: Collaborative, values-driven processes that help organizations get clear on where they're going and how they'll get there. I design and facilitate strategy processes that build internal alignment, not just external documents.

  • Leadership Development: Thought partnership, coaching, and cohort-based learning for leaders who want to grow their capacity — not just their skills. I bring a particular lens to relational leadership, peer learning, and the navigation of organizational complexity.

  • Facilitation: Skilled facilitation for retreats, board meetings, team offsites, and community convenings. I create conditions where groups can think well together, surface what matters, and move forward with clarity.

  • Special Projects: Program architecture, community engagement, marketing, and storytelling strategies for projects including cultural plans, new initiatives, and new grant-making opportunities.

About the Philly Leadership Lab

I'm Caralyn Spector, founder of Philly Leadership Lab. For over 30 years, I've worked across philanthropy, government, academia, nonprofit, and arts and culture — always at the intersection of organizational change and human development.

I believe the most important work happens in relationships. I'm not here to hand you answers — I'm here to help you find them, build the capacity to act on them, and create the conditions for your team to do their best work.

I'm based in Philadelphia and work with organizations locally, regionally, and nationally.
